Gandhi is My Gun with Rancho Relaxo - An Interview

***** Interview with Rancho Relaxo *****

Q. When did Rancho Relaxo starts, tell us about the history...
it started in late 2002 after gathering some cheap instruments and jamming to “Sister Ray” all night.I had written a bunch of poetry and was transforming it into music. We made art movies inspired by David lynch, mixed with heavy mind experiments and long travels. We put music to film , film to music, garbage into art. It kind of came naturally, the process of creating levitated out of everything we did. The country side of norway is big, vast and lonely, a void... nothing that reflected back and we could shape everything in a very free way.

Q: Who are your influences?
Nansen, the third wave of psychedelic music, now time, Stone Roses. We are friends of electricity, like Tesla.

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Velvet Underground , the first (penisbanan)
Jesus and Mary Chain – Darklands
Brian Jonestown Massacre – Take it from the man
The Byrds – Notorious byrds brothers
The doors – strange days

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
Playing live feels good, its something we have done too little. Our situation makes it a challenge to play live. We are very scattered around norway so to get together needs some planning. We hope this will change.

Q. How do you describe Rancho Relaxo sounds?
Electrical Hypnophonic Rain

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the new album and what´s the difference between the 1st and new one?
No difference really, the only thing that has changed is the equipment. Our first album we recorded on a 4 track tape machine...now we have some more tracks. We have no fixed process really...the backing vocals of one of the songs on the new album (Diamond Black) was recorded through a vacuum cleaner, you know...stuff like this.

Q. What´s represents the shoegazer classic era to the band?
I dont know. Can you tell us. It has been much rain lately. Teenage Filmstar maybe.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Himalaya, Colour, 22 Degrees Taurus, The Hidden Ratio, The Koolaid Electric Company,Paths of Prakriti a norwegian band, danish band The Revolution. There are many good bands around.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
On our record Into Trouble from 2010 we have a cover of The Koolaid Electric Company`s “Untitled1”. Its more a ambient psychokinesis then a cover really. On our first record we have a hidden track, a Them song. We have also recorded a version of Tommy Roe`s Sheila and Jesus and Mary Chain`s On the Wall (the Barbed wired kisses version). We like to try different things.

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Playing

Q: Any parting words?
