Heaven Up Here with The Balcony Stars - An Interview

***** Interview with The Balcony Stars *****

Q. When did Balcony Stars starts tell us about the history...
The Balcony Stars were started in Liverpool ,England in 2011 by myself ( Andrew Pringle ) playing guitar ,bass and whatever else I got my hands on and lead singer Alan Sullivan . We made are early recordings with engineer Gary Thomas at Vulcan studios in Liverpool .

Q: Who are your influences?
Our influences are wide and varied . From Scott Walker to The Stooges via The Black Angels and My Bloody Valentine . 60's psychedelia ,70's post -punk ,80's indie and 90's shoegaze .

Q. Made a list of 5 albuns of all time…
To pick 5 albums is almost impossible and if you asked me tomorrow it may be a different list . Anyway ,

* The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico
* The Beatles - Revolver
* Scott Walker - Scott 4
* The Associates - Sulk
* Echo and the bunnymen - Heaven up here

Special mention for The Black Angels - Passover ,the Jesus and Marychains - Psychocandy and the Beatles - white album

Q. How do you fell playing alive?
It's a long time since we've played live but it's a great feeling , especially if people have actually made the effort to come out and see you . We're holding out for that Black Angels support slot . Still waiting for the call .

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
We have a portable 8 track studio and home and work on our sound and songwriting there . The perfect sound for us would be the drums and noise of The Velvet Underground ,the guitar of Echo and the Bunnymens Will Sergeant and the voice of Scott Walker or Lee Hazelwood . We don't chase any particular genre . What comes out is just us .

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
Newish bands that I like include , the Vacant Lots , the Allah - las , Cosmonauts ,Crocodiles ( not that new but cool ! ) and Grass on the sun from Italy .

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
We don't do many covers but recently had a go at 'Young men dead ' by The Black Angels and 'Anemone ' by The Brian Jonestown Massacre ' , also partial to a bit of ' my girl ' by The Temptations

Q: What´s the plans for future....
Last year we released a single via Liverpool vinyl label Eighties vinyl records and recently we released a download (so far ) track 'Crystal Bones ' . We release a new track 'The last word on your lips ' on 8th September via iTunes , Amazon , Spotify and The Balcony Stars BANDCAMP page . It will be accompanied by a video from American filmmaker Christopher Edwards . Early 2016 will see the release of A Balcony Stars album and maybe even a live show or 2 .. If The Black Angels come calling .

Q: Any parting words?
Go and find music that isn't in the pop charts . Look online , read more music blogs , go and see bands in small clubs rather than arenas and also start your own band and get your music on soundcloud and BANDCAMP and get yourself heard . Take care . Much love x
